Herbal Medicine Is….
at the root of humanity’s great healing traditions and is still the most widely used system of medicine in the world today. It can be described as the art and science of skillfully collecting, preparing, and using plants and fungi to promote health, prevent and treat illness. Medicinally, an herb is any plant part or plant used for its therapeutic value.
Herbal medicines, along with dietary and lifestyle changes, nurture our body’s innate healing capacity. By adding (or removing) important healing elements that our body’s needs, it begins to re-calibrate naturally.
Herbs can be used alone or work in conjunction with other health care modalities as part of an integrated and practical health care program.
Energetic Herbalism: As an energetic practitioner I employ herbs, fungi, and clinical strategies to address the roots of imbalance while supporting the body’s innate natural intelligence. Some herbalists also refer to this as Vitalism.
A clinical, energetic herbalist must listen to a person and ‘read’ their energy. Two people may have the same diagnosis by a Dr. or even symptoms yet be provided with completely different herbal formulas depending on their constitution. Recognizing, understanding, and treating symptoms at their roots and choosing plants that not only to treat the symptoms but to match them with the person can bring sustained vitality.
Herbalism is about relationships
….with ourselves, with the plants, the land, the water, and with one another. Life is not a solo act! Safety and connection in relationship with others is how we heal. Consistent work with the herbs, food and lifestyle shifts along with practitioner (and peer) support is more likely to provide lasting results.
I’m a bit biased but herbal medicines have the ability to support our body’s innate capacity to heal: Strengthen immunity, Pain Management, Respiratory Support, Allergies, Nervous System, Gynecological Balance, Mind-Body-Spirit;memory and focus, support in healing trauma; for grounding, and boundaries, Digestive and and Elimination (Gastrointestinal System, Liver and Gallbladder, Urinary System, and the Skin); Men’s Health, Cardiovascular, First Aid, support with quitting smoking; Disease prevention, energy, stamina and overall wellbeing; Recovery from surgery.
